Welcome to the Killian Campus

2621 Clemson Road Columbia, SC 29229 803.231.3307

Thank you for visiting the Killian Campus site.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands has partnered with Killian Elementary to surround our students with uncommon facilities, resources and support and to foster and continue their academic growth beyond regular school hours.

The safe and caring environment at our Killian Campus has enabled so many of our young diverse students to play, learn and develop valuable skills for life, courtesy of the Boys and Girls Club.

Together, the Killian administration, faculty and staff work collaboratively with the Boys and Girls Club to sustain a comprehensive cadre of services to reduce student behavior, improve student self esteem and raise student achievement, while working to increase school safety and student leadership.

The Killian Unit is often described as a home away from home. Students know that they are loved and cared for by staff members. We believe that no child is left behind.

Students are cared for in a nurturing environment, where leadership is encouraged and embraced. We realize we must establish partnerships with parents, our community members and others to prepare our students to become productive citizens.

Programs and Activities

The many programs...the many initiatives...are unique and designed to meet the specific needs of the students. Students are engaged in activities that strengthen their self-confidence and personal perception, which makes them feel they are valued unit members.

Similar to the values of Killian Elementary, Service Learning is also a unique component of this branch because it offers the children an opportunity to continue developing leadership skills through service to others.

Here at Killian Elementary, we are proud of the staff and community's hard work and dedication, as well as the quality programs that build such strong relationships with both our members and their parents.

We focus on enhancing student’s Technology and Social Skills. Students are mentored by staff and are given an hour to work on homework. During the enrichment segment, the students are provided opportunities to participate in a variety of activities that supports our quest to enhance technology and social abilities.

Activities include Fine Arts Development, Smart Girls, Passport to Manhood, Goals for Growth, Triple Play, Healthy Habits, Double Dutch, Soccer, Junior Achievement, Cooking Club, Jujitsu and Torch Club.

All of these programs are apart of our five core programs. Another major focus in our unit is academic achievement. The students at Killian strive for excellence in every core subject.

Such quest for excellence requires incentive. Their Power Hour affords them an opportunity to earn power bucks for bringing all materials needed to complete their assignments. These bucks are used to purchase items on selected Fun Fridays. Through this incentive program students are also taught how to manage money.

How We Excel at Killian Elementary

At our Killian campus, we demonstrate excellence from all areas. Our actions speak for themselves; we are a finalist for one of South Carolina’s most distinctive awards, Carolina First, Palmetto’s Finest. We stand as reigning champions of the BGCM Flag Football tournament for two years in a row. Our campus partners with the 21st Century Community Learning Center to provide our students with technology driven, and hands on academic instruction. Three days of the week students participate in Talent Development Academies. Classes range from the Sizzling Science Club, the Dynamic Schoolhouse Drum line, Tae Kwon-Do just to name a few. Let’s not forget Service Learning, students coordinated a can food drive for families in Haiti.

Through every service learning or enrichment project, Killian Elementary BGCM parents are always very supportive. To show our appreciation, each month we sponsor parent meetings, socials, and best of all, parents' night out.

We encourage you to come visit our club, speak with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands staff and learn how our staff, along with Killian Elementary, can help your child BE GREAT!
